TAMS National Essay Competition:
Future Docs Decide
Future Docs Decide is an annual national essay competition for aspiring medics aged 15-18.
This competition was established to provide students with a unique opportunity to research into an area of interest, that may not be covered in the GCSE/A-level curriculum.
In our debut year, we received several entries from students around the country. Their task was to address the following scenario:
You are the NHS CEO and the Prime Minister has surprisingly awarded you with an unlimited amount of money for any given project. Please outline how you intend to spend this money to improve the NHS.
Students explored a variety of topics, ranging from funding of palliative care to the current availability of gene therapy.
We are incredibly proud of every student who took the time out enter this competition.
We are also pleased to announce the winner for this year’s national competition.
A massive congratulations to Lara Tudor!

“Lara's essay was clear and eloquent. She went into a great deal of depth exploring the ongoing A&E crisis, with appropriate use of statistics and referencing. The multifaceted nature of the A&E crisis was clearly appreciated by the candidate as this was clearly demonstrated in the proposed solution. Additionally, the proposed solution was both creative and thorough. The candidate demonstrated a clear understanding of the need for a multi-sectoral approach to combat the discussed issue. We commend the applicant for truly producing an essay that significantly went above and beyond the requested standard. Well done for showing great insight and diligence. We wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavours.”
