OMOLADE’S JOURNEY TO TAMS
How did you discover TAMS and what inspired you to join the team?
I first discovered TAMS in 2017 when I attended the Aspiring Medics Day. I was inspired to join the team after successfully getting into medical school with help in the form of mentoring. I too wanted to support aspiring medics like myself by equipping them with knowledge that is usually limited to the traditional cohort of medical students.
What do you enjoy about studying medicine at your university?
I really enjoy dissections which are a great way for me to learn my anatomy. Although they can be quite challenging, I think they prepare me for my years in clinical medicine.
If you could change one thing about your university, what would it be?
If I could change one thing I would lower the number of contact hours. I find that attending all classes can be quite exhausting and although it's useful, I think more independent learning should be encouraged.
What are your interests outside of medicine?
I really enjoy any form of dance whether that is cheerleading or contemporary. I also enjoy hairstyling- specifically for Afro-Caribbeans.
What tip would you give an aspiring medic in regard to selecting their universities?
If you are looking for the typical “uni experience” make sure you apply for a uni that can deliver that. For example, research what the night life is like, whether there are societies and clubs. Finally, whether there is significant student diversity.
