Ameerah Saliu - TAMS Scholar 2023-24
Ameerah Saliu Mutasa is a TAMS Scholar and first year medical student. We caught up with her to hear some of her reflections on the programme thus far. Here’s what she had to say:
Hi Ameerah, if you don’t mind sharing, why did you apply to the tams scholars programme?
I applied to the TAMS Scholar Programme as I believed it would provide a foundation to begin my medical journey. I felt it was a great opportunity to be a part of a network of ambitious individuals within medicine. Further, I hope to complete my time at university with more than just my degree. I intend to take the steps to equip myself with the skills necessary to make macroscopic impact and I feel that TAMS is an amazing community to nurture that drive.
If at all, how has the programme helped you so far?
In the TAMS programme there have been monthly PPD sessions which have been a great opportunity to think about aspects of medicine as a whole that I may not have considered in the day to day of my degree. I think these have certainly provided many thoughts for reflection and plans of action as I continue throughout the year.
Would you recommend the programme to incoming first years, if so who would you recommend the programme to?
I would recommend TAMS to first years who are looking for a community to support their journey in medicine. I think whether you are excited or apprehensive about starting medical school, there is something in TAMS for everyone.
The TAMS Scholars Programme team are so proud of Ameerah and we are very excited to continue to support her in her various endeavours.
