Elidana Tesfaldet - TAMS Scholar 2023-24

Elidana Tesfaldet is a TAMS Scholar and first year medical student at Edge Hill University. We caught up with her to hear some of her reflections on the programme thus far. Here’s what she had to say:

Hi Elidana, if you don’t mind sharing, why did you apply to the tams scholars programme?

I applied to TAMS to further my personal and professional development, network with other medical students and learn new skills and perspectives. As a medical student coming from a WP background, I recognise that there were certain opportunities and resources I may have not been exposed to given my background. TAMS for me is an opportunity fulfil my potential.

If at all, how has the programme helped you so far?

So far, this programme has taught me a lot. The monthly sessions cover a variety of topics. My favourite was the finance session; it is still such a taboo topic today’s society. As a medical student, i have increased academic stress, but also being a WP student, finance has always been so worrisome. This session helped me think about budgeting realistically and how to spend my money reasonably.

Would you recommend the programme to incoming first years, if so who would you recommend the programme to?

Yes, I would absolutely recommend the programme to new first years, particularly WP students because of the resources and expertise it makes available. So many of these students have the drive and passion to get into medicine, but are not as able to seek out the experiences and opportunities they need to fully thrive when they get to medical school.

The TAMS Scholars Programme team are so proud of Elidana and we are very excited to continue to support her in her various endeavours.
