Leyton Aspiring Medic's Day
“I found today really useful as before this I did not have a huge insight as to things to do with medical school”- A-level Student & Leyton Aspiring Medic’s Day Attendee
“They [Leyton Borough Students] were able to receive coaching and support that they would not otherwise be able to pay for”- Teacher & Leyton Aspiring Medic’s Day Attendee
TAMS returned to East London in November 2019 with the Leyton Aspiring Medic’s Day, hosted by Leyton Sixth Form College.
Students from the borough were invited into the college for an afternoon of presentations and discussions. Topics on the day ranged from, ‘The reality of living as a Junior Doctor’ to ‘Admission Test Tips’. Speakers included medical students from King’s College London, University College London and Keele University as well as a junior doctor based in East London. The day also included an impromptu question and answer session that was conducted in small and intimate groups.
TAMS was also proud to host our first teacher focus group. This involved a training session that highlighted the major difficulties that teachers in London state schools experience in providing additional support for their medical school applicants. TAMS Team were able to address some of these issues and highlight the support we can offer to help alleviate these pressures. The team has now begun to use these findings to draft an educational newsletter that will compile helpful information for state school teachers in the capital.
The Leyton Aspiring Medic’s Day was a major success and we look forward to building a longlasting and sustainable partnership with all schools involved!
