Croydon (Virtual) Aspiring Medic's Day
On March 20th, the outreach team was back in action as they ran their second Aspiring Medic’s Day of 2021! Students from Croydon had the opportunity to join this morning event, as many topics of interest were covered, including admission tests, interviews, and getting the grades / applying to medical school.
Carrying on from our previous talk in Barking, we invited physicians (incl. Dr. Umesh Prabhu - former consultant paediatrician and medical director of Bury NHS Trust, and Mr. Saiful Miah - consultant urologist at Buckinghamshire NHS Trust and Oxford University Hospitals) and a medical student to shed light on their day-to-day lives in their respective careers, their motivations to enter medicine, and advice to impart to aspiring medics.
The event was positively received, with a few examples of what the participants enjoyed about the day:
“Hearing from the paediatrician, surgeon and medical student - an insight into the ins and outs of medicine from people at different stages within their respective careers.”
“The admissions exams explanation.”
“The interview part because I didn’t know anything about it before.”
“Appreciating the idea of setting standards whilst working and studying during medical school as it can be challenging.”
We would like to thank our participants and speakers for making this Aspiring Medic’s Day a success, and we look forward to welcoming you to our next talk in June for both Newham and Tower Hamlets; stay tuned for further updates!
