Hackney Aspiring Medic's Day
“I really enjoyed the fact that many people were sharing their own, real experiences with us and telling us the truth instead of just trying to persuade us to take medicine” - Student and Hackney Aspiring Medic’s Day attendee
In December 2017, Hackney Aspiring Medic’s Day came to East London for the first time. The event was hosted by Petchey Academy and involved students from around the Hackney borough.
We were proud to host our first guest speaker, Dr Stephanie Balogun, an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Trainee in London. She delivered an inspiring talk that highlighted her triumphs and challenges in her medical journey. The students enjoyed hearing from Dr Stephanie as well as medical students from a number of universities, including Keele University and Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Students were equipped with information concerning the medical application process and were also encouraged to continue to pursue their dreams, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
The highlight of the day was the series of mock interviews that were run by Lois Aikins, Keele Univerity Medical Student. This provided students with an opportunity (that some had never been given before!) to sharpen their interview skills.
Thank you to Petchey Academy and the students of Hackney borough. Hackney Aspiring Medic’s Day will soon return bigger and better!
